6 Areas Where the iPhone Lags Behind Its Android Competitors

iPhones and Androids are the opposite ends of a spectrum. People who use an iPhone would never shift to an Android, and vice versa. So, the debate as to which operating system is better can never rest. Although, the early iPhone models were much superior to Androids. Now, the gap between the two has decreased many folds.   

The iPhone might still be better in terms of privacy and hardware durability, but these are no longer stand-out features. Flagship Android phones are innovative and have some exciting features. Moreover, there are some things that Android does better than iPhone. Here are some areas that the iPhone is lagging behind its competitors:   

1: Battery Life and Charging  

Previously, people only used their phones to make calls or send messages. So, you pretty much only picked it up to call Spectrum mobile service or message your mom. Now, people do almost everything on their phones. They have replaced most small gadgets in your home. And for this, they need better batteries.   

The battery life for iPhones has always been an issue. On the contrary, the Android phone batteries and charging times have always been a step ahead. Android phones were also the first to introduce wireless and fast charging. Although Apple now has wireless charging since iPhone 8, they still lack fast charging. Moreover, the power-saving mode on Androids adds a lot more boost to the battery in comparison.   

2: Expandable Storage  

One of the most annoying things in iPhones is the 5GB backup limit on iCloud. At the present age, 5GB is next to nothing. So, if you want more storage, which you probably do, you have to subscribe to it. In comparison, Google provides 15GB free storage backups.   

The early iPhones were also stingy with built-in storage. The base models came with 16 GB memory without any additional external storage options. You couldn’t even add a memory card to your phone, which was pretty common in early Androids. So, iPhone users had no other choice than to buy storage space for iCloud. Moreover, the Google backup can work on multiple platforms while iCloud only works on iOS, Windows, and Mac.  

3: Dual SIM  me

Android phones have had two SIM jackets for ages. For the longest time, Apple didn’t even consider the possibility of a dual SIM phone. So, most people who had two numbers also had to carry two phones. But Apple announced two SIM compatibility with the iPhone 11. The only catch is that your secondary SIM should be an eSIM.   

So, even though Apple phones support two SIMs, it can be inconvenient. You cannot port eSIMS to another network if you want to. Moreover, most networks don’t even offer eSIMS. So, even though Apple came late to the party, Android still did it better.  

4: Split-Screen Mode  

It is unbelievable that iPhones still don’t have a split-screen option in 2021. Android users probably boast this one the most, as they should. They have had this feature ever since Android 7.0, and the user experience depends on the device. Android TVs also have a picture-in-picture feature. So, if you like to multitask on your phone, Androids can be the best for you.  

Apple launched a picture-in-picture feature with the iOS 14. So, if you are watching a video, you can press the home key. It will shift the video to a smaller tab, and it will continue playing. This feature works with Apple’s native video player and Netflix. But it is still not compatible with YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc.   

5: Hardware Options  

Buying the latest iPhone can be easy because you don’t have a lot of options. You only have to choose between the expensive one or the more expensive one. So, unless you want to buy last year’s model, iPhones only have two or three models to choose from. On the other hand, Androids may be one too many. You can choose from high-end models from Samsung or mid-ranged like Google Pixel or OnePlus. 

In contrast, Androids give you a lot of choices based on brand, size, price point, features, shape, etc. As a result, you can fluctuate your budget and still get a decent phone. The sweet spot for Androids is probably the mid-range phones. They can compete with expensive iPhones any day of the week.  

6: USB-C Port  

Androids have by and large moved on to the innovative USB-C ports on all new models. On the other hand, iPhones are still using lightning cables. These cables are specific to iPhones only and not durable as well. It can get expensive to keep replacing the lightning cable that doesn’t work. Moreover, they are an extra cable that you have no choice but to carry.   

The USB-C ports on Androids are compatible with almost all devices. Most laptops (including MacBooks) support the USB-C. So, you don’t have to carry a separate cable only to charge your phone.
